Before You Buy a Wall Printer: The Truth They Won’t Tell You

Starting a wall printing business? The industry is full of hype, high markups, and misleading advice. Here’s the real story from someone who’s been through the circus and came out the other side.

Wall Print Wayfinder: Navigating the Circus of Wall Printing in the U.S.

When I first jumped into the world of wall printing, finding reliable information was almost impossible. The deeper I dug, the crazier it got.

It felt like stepping into a traveling circus:

  • High-flying promises

  • Price tags that made no sense

  • And one “expert” after another trying to sell me a ticket to their show

Everyone had a “secret formula,” a “can’t miss system,” or a printer they swore would make me rich. But the more I uncovered, the more I realized that most of it was hype, half-truths, or straight-up nonsense.

I run 1 Time Wall Prints and own a DXonJet VPJet 4.0, and I’ve been through this circus firsthand. I could have gotten seriously burned if I hadn’t slowed down and done my homework.

Why This Blog Exists

I built this space to give you the honest, hands-on insight I wish I had when I started.

Here’s the truth:

  • Most of the info online is biased toward whoever is selling the machine.

  • Some U.S. resellers are charging $30–35K for printers that aren’t worth that price.

  • Training courses often cost hundreds but mostly tell you “duh” stuff you could learn in an afternoon.

If you’re thinking about starting a wall printing business, I want you to have clarity before cashing out your savings.

The “Run Before You Crawl” Trap

One of the biggest mistakes I see?
People get told to:

  1. Drop $30K+ on a printer

  2. Book jobs before their machine even arrives

  3. Hit social media hard and start “making money” right away

Sounds great, right? Until your first print goes sideways on someone’s wall.

I believe in learn before you earn:

  • Step 1: Get your printer and learn it inside and out.

  • Step 2: Practice until you can print clean, confident jobs.

  • Step 3: Then—and only then—start putting your name on walls.

Rushing it gives you headaches and the whole industry a black eye.

The Big Picture

The wall printing industry has huge potential in the U.S., but it’s still young. If we handle it wrong—if too many people get burned or start botching walls before they know what they’re doing—it could collapse before it even takes off.

I want to see this industry grow the right way:

  • Honest information

  • Real training

  • No smoke and mirrors

That’s what Wall Print Wayfinder is all about. I’m here to clear the air, share the hard lessons I’ve learned, and help the next wave of wall printers avoid the circus traps.

Up Next…

In upcoming Wall Print Wayfinder posts and videos, I’ll be diving into:

  • How to spot red flags before you buy a wall printer

  • What training and prep you really need before your first client job

  • The biggest myths floating around the U.S. wall printing scene
